Seasonal warning: Bridge views are best when the Padma is full in the monsoon; in winter sandbars appear in the river.

Introduction

A 6.15 km two-level bridge (four-lane highway above, single-track rail below), inaugurated on 25 June 2022, connecting Louhajang Upazila in Munshiganj with Zajira in Shariatpur and part of Shibchar in Madaripur. From the southern Zajira-Shibchar bank you get sweeping Padma views and the lively bridge-head market.

Suggested time: 1-2 hours

How to get there

From Dhaka take the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga expressway (N8) across the Padma Bridge and stop at the Zajira end; private cars or buses on the Dhaka-Mawa/Bhanga route make this straightforward.

The honest truth about costs

Bridge tolls are set by the Roads and Highways/rivers police authority; if hiring a car, check whether the toll is included.

What you will need to budget for

  • Getting there (bus, train, launch or air fare)
  • Stay (per night, per room)
  • Food (per person, per day)
  • Entry tickets and local transport
  • A small buffer for the return journey
