Introduction
A mangrove-fringed char risen in the Bay of Bengal under Char Montaz union of Rangabali Upazila, about 45 km from Patuakhali district headquarters. On its roughly 9 km beach, small red crabs can be seen at dawn; the Forest Department reports deer and monkeys in the forest, and winter brings migratory birds. There are no hotels on the island - visitors stay at the Forest Department camp or camp, which is a basic experience.

How to get there
Reach Char Montaz in Rangabali via Patuakhali/Barishal, then continue by boat or trawler to Sonar Char. From Dhaka, take a launch or bus to Patuakhali. Boat crossings depend on the tide - check ahead and take a local guide.
