Getting there

Fares and prices change — confirm before travelling.

Dhaka → Khagrachhari bus

Dhaka (Arambag) → Khagrachhari

Several buses (Hanif, Shyamli Imperial and others) leave from Arambag bus stand; fare around 800 BDT per person, an 8-9 hour run, mostly overnight.

৳700-2,000

Tip: AC coaches provide blankets for the cold night run — book ahead.

Khagrachhari → Sajek (army escort convoy)

Khagrachhari → Baghaihat → Sajek (about 32 km)

Entry to Sajek is only with the army escort convoys leaving Baghaihat camp at fixed times; onwards transport is CNG, jeeps (also sold as tour packages), open-top chander gari or motorbike.

Places to visit

Lusai Gram (Lushai village)

A Lushai hill village near Sajek — you can rent traditional dress for photos; entry needs a per-person ticket.

Entry: ৳30 (per person)

Easton Garden

Big stones, seating and a wooden bridge inside an adjacent resort's ground; children under 12 need no ticket. Visitors say there is not much inside beyond that.

Entry: ৳20 (per person)

Food

  • Roadside eats (Baghaihat–Khagrachhari)

Coconuts at the Baghaihat camp stalls, an 80 BDT egg-khichuri breakfast by the Khagrachhari bus drop-off, and full hotel meals for as low as 70 BDT — all first-hand reports.

  • Helipad evening food stalls

In the evening, stalls below the Sajek helipad sell local items — baskorol, pahari alu, binni-chal payesh and bamboo-chonga tea.

Good to know

  • Entry to Sajek is only via the army escort convoys from Baghaihat at fixed times — miss the convoy and you do not reach Sajek that day
  • The winding hill road to Sajek causes motion sickness for many travellers — carry medicine

Fares and prices change — confirm before travelling.

Tips

  • Resort rooms reported so far run around ৳5,500/night — book ahead in season; rates move
  • Grid electricity has now reached Sajek (previously generator-only after evenings) — road works are ongoing though, pack accordingly
  • The final 3 km climb into Sajek is the steepest — vehicles queue at the bottom to prepare; the main road was damaged by construction trucks recently, allow extra time
