Introduction

A roughly 1.8 km steel railway truss bridge over the Padma, built in 1912 between Ishwardi (Pabna) and Bheramara (Kushtia). Damaged in the 1971 war and reopened to public passage on 12 October 1972. A popular photo stop for the bridge and Padma river views.

Suggested time: 1-2 hours

How to get there

Kushtia town to Bheramara by bus/CNG to reach the Kushtia end of the bridge; by train, Bheramara/Paksey stations serve it. Confirm current fares.

Important notes

  • Hardinge Bridge is a 1,798 m railway-only bridge over the Padma (Ishwardi-Bheramara); road traffic uses the adjacent Lalon Shah Bridge. Walking on the active rail bridge is prohibited/dangerous - view it from the riverside paths or from Lalon Shah Bridge, which gives panoramic views.

  • Hubs: Paksey/Ishwardi (Pabna) or Bheramara (Kushtia). Buses from Dhaka's Gabtoli serve Ishwardi (no reliable fare figure verified this session - ask at the counter). Most Dhaka-Khulna trains now run via the Padma Bridge; Chitra Express is cited as still crossing Hardinge - check same-day options to Paksey on the railway e-ticketing site.
