Introduction

A national park with a 940-hectare core area within the Bhawal sal forest, about 40 km north of Dhaka, surrounded by 5,022 hectares of forest. It holds 345 plant species, and the Forest Department has introduced peacocks, spotted deer and pythons. It is the closest picnic and weekend forest spot to Dhaka and gets very crowded on weekends.

Suggested time: half day

How to get there

From Dhaka take a bus or CNG along the Mymensingh highway (N3) to Gazipur Chowrasta; the park lies close to the Chowrasta area, about 20 km from Gazipur town.

Important notes

  • About 40 km north of Dhaka on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway (N3), in Gazipur; 1-1.5 hours by car/bus depending on traffic.

  • Entry fees are community-reported only: ~20 BDT local / ~100 BDT foreign (per person); one visitor reports 120 BDT for a car with driver at gate 4 - i.e. a separate vehicle fee. No official Forest Department schedule could be verified - confirm at the gate. (Note: the widely shared 'Tk20-to-Tk100 hike' video story concerns the National Botanical Garden in Mirpur, not Bhawal.)

  • In April 2026 there were protests over a waste transfer station near the main gate; reporting indicated foot access remained open while vehicles faced obstacles - check current conditions before travelling.
